The President Invites Families of Shot Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Memorials across the state have been held in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president informed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Attendees came together over the weekend at a local school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the principal of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while armed.
The event led the government to halt asylum processing and halt granting entry permits to possessors of travel documents.
Condition of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had bravery,” the governor addressed the audience at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
