The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
